Knitting Review #3

Let Your Art Guide You Week 16

This week's sharing is knitting...
For now I'll call this a 'partial review', when it's done hopefully Friday, I'll edit to finish up.....
Edited: It's done yay! 1 day in advance- The hat looks very nice. It isn't as lacy as I was expecting, I was imagining more eyelets-so I think it would be great, clear into Fall and Winter!!
You can find a link to reviews #1 and #2 here

I'm always on the lookout for new fun hat patterns-I know, I've said this before, but in case you're new here...they're probably my favorite thing to knit-I like smallish projects and buying really nice yarns...& since hats only require a skein or 2 at most, they're a fun affordable, portable project. Portable is going to become really important soon ~I'll want something to travel with....

This is the "Angel Face Beret" from Tahki Stacy Charles' 'Garden Variety' book. I bought the whole book mainly for the pattern on the front(!)..O.k, one day I want to move onto vests and sweaters...maybe this Fall....

~So far, this hat is really easy for me. I'd call myself a somewhat mildly advanced knitter-minus sweaters, I've done a lot of other projects and have done quite a few different types of stitches...The pattern is easy to memorize, and because of the eyelets you can pretty much tell where you are and if you're making a mistake before you get too far (*see below)
Edited: hat was pretty easy throughout..
~*I did have to rip it back to the brim twice, I'm not sure why :0
Edited: I also lost track of the decrease stitches toward the very last few rows. It looks fine though. I'm sure it's just something I did while watching American Idol, lol.

~The decreasing, I've only just started on...I'm anxious to get back to work on it as I'm pretty particular with how the crowns decrease and finish but I'll let you know how that goes as soon as it's done : )
Edited: Besides my losing track(see above), the decreasing went just the way I like. Gradually : ) I think hats look so much better this way...

~I should mention- I used size US 4 circular needles throughout-('til it gets necessary to use the double points), instead of the sizes 4 and 5 straights called for in the pattern. I have an extra stitch in the back but I think it'll hardly be noticeable. Next time, I'll have to figure out how to adapt that, meanwhile, I think it's much easier to use "circs."

~The yarn is---again "someone" threw the label away (note to self-do not leave labels on the coffee table) but I remember-It's Berroco Comfort yarn....I needed one that was not wool and this was about the only choice I had at the shop that day. Usually I wouldn't use synthetics but it was a must this time, and it seems to be turning out pretty nice. Sometimes not having many choices turns out to be a good thing.

I also wanted to mention a little one of my tips...Aside from writing "where I'm at" in the pattern on post it notes, and or, placing the post it note just under the line I'm working on...I use this little bookmarky thing you can see in the photo above. I purchased it at a local book store.
It works pretty well (Especially on the right hand side of a page) to show where I am. I just cover the row with the cut out area. You can also use it to point to where you are. -as you can see I'm on row 31 : )
Edited -I'm done!! Off to make another!-Now to take a photo and upload it!!
Happy crafting !!Ta~da
