Stubborn Determination Pattern Designing

Sometimes I dream up a pattern or design idea. Then, thinking I must've seen it somewhere-go to look, or try to look up an explanation for a specific technique and end up unable to find it anywhere-this happened recently -I can't even remember what the idea for that one was anymore. Note to self: I seriously need to start sketching out my ideas. And I need to get on the ball with pattern designing...

This is (one of)my goal(s) for when I get back from vacation. If I write it down here, perhaps it'll give me the kick I need to get moving? ;)

Anyway, I thought I'd recently seen a pattern like this...more specifically the tapered gusset.

As you can see, I've made 2, using some of my good fabrics and zippers (I hate to use scrap fabrics or muslin, and have a bad habit of using good fabrics to practice with as, a lot of times, my first one ends up being my favorite...these prototypes usually end up in my own purse, lol). I took the cat one apart 2 or 3 times, and resized the gusset at least that many.

I think by now, I have figured out the way to do this right, all by myself. Meanwhile I have googled every possible word looking for the technique, or a pattern out there with a similar gusset. Maybe I haven't seen it somewhere after all, except in my mind? And it's up to me to make one! ;)

This afternoon it's, literally, back to the drawing board to perfect this -and if I get it right- maybe a pattern? I even have a cute name picked out ;)
