Hat Box Tote

Some plans fell through and I ended up having some extra time to finish my tote. Yay : )

((Please be kind, this is just a prototype ;0
The edges are not perfect etc. etc.))

rounded sides.I added just a bit of lace to the top for fun.
I added some notes to the photo so you can see what I'm thinking of changing as I go along for the next one.

Sewing is a bit deceiving.
Even though this bag looks super easy ...it isn't as easy as I thought it would be.
Getting those rounded edges to line up, and I also complicated things with the multi-part gusset.I haven't made a tote in awhile so I had to think through some of the steps.
Apparently I wasn't thinking too hard, because I hadn't intended on making the gusset in 3 steps. In fact next time I may skip a gusset altogether and go straight to darts.

I saw a vintage rounded tote in a book and have been wanting to make some bags that are easy to take with me when I hop in and out of the car a zillion times a day. Essentially a 'Hand'bag.

Anyway the shape came from a large hat box I store some ribbons and trim in.
I 'cut off' the top and the bottom so they would be flat...and voila!

I have some ideas for other bags-mostly different in the way the handle would be attached...
Off to see what I can get done...

What do you think?
Do you like totes-or do you mostly use purses  ?
