Knitting Pattern Review #2

(Pattern review #1 can be found here)
I have tried and tried to accomplish a hat for Easter for someone I know who really deserves it. I tried a lacy hat in the latest Vogue knitting magazine and redid that one about 20 times, no exaggeration!! I don't know what happened there-sometimes I just have to walk away from a project for awhile and then one day it suddenly makes sense, but, I finally gave up on it, tried something else and about a dozen times later, gave up on that one too.
As you can see from the amount of times I retried the same pattern I don't give up easily on my knitting projects. I wish I could say the same for other projects I start.
Anyway~
I consider myself a pretty advanced beginning knitter. I have been knitting for a few years now, but have mainly made hats.

I like them because they're smaller projects (I don't have a lot of patience with things that take a long time to make:0), they're portable, and don't require lots of yarn-cause I like to buy really nice yarn -or at least from Mom and Pop shops, which are usually of better quality.

So I found this pattern I had printed up a long time ago and never got around to starting.
It's called Spring Beret by Natalie Larson~ and I think the name is perfect for right now : )
You can find the pattern there on Ravelry. It is a free download.

The hat was super easy to knit. I think I only had to redo a row or 2 but that was my fault. (Multitasking). I think I'll keep this one for myself because it is wool and maybe not quite as slouchy as I wanted to make it for 'the gift'.
This pattern would be easy to modify to make it more or less slouchy. I could have gone another set of the lace pattern rows, but was afraid I didn't have enough yarn.
The decreasing was a lot simpler than I've ever done-just k2tog til the last 4 stitches.
For myself next time- I might try decreasing a different way. For a beginner especially, this would be a great place to start.
All in all- I can see making many more of these-Future Christmas presents?
It's a nice, pretty quick, pretty easy hat.

The yarn- I love. I bought a skein awhile back- The skeins are small so I bought a few more to make something with-like a hat(!), kept a label last night so I could write about it here -and 'someone' threw the label away-if I find it -or go back for more yarn-I'll edit this to include the info.
I do know it's made in Germany and is wool, I think a Merino blend. It feels like cotton, and is super soft. I just love it. Did I say that already?

I'll be wearing my hat today : )
